VPLEX is the lowest cost storage platform the Symmetrix team has ever shipped.
A category creating product which brings Distributed Cache Coherency to workloads in the Private Cloud by providing the ability to make block storage volumes available Always-Active across long distances.
Take block devices, thousands of them and have them span data centres.
Two sites, synchronous distance up to 100 km apart running Oracle, Microsoft and SAP workloads on both sides with all storage presented as Always-Active spanning the distance across both sites.
This is not the future. This is VPLEX Metro. You can read all about the Global Solution here.
VPLEX is a platform designed to fit the needs of the new data centre gods, the VMwares, the Hyper-Vs and Oracle VMs of the world. A highly resilient scale out architecture, starting with two Directors in a single Engine and scaling up to eight Directors in four Engines but with a very aggressive entry level price.
Sure it’ll run all the non-virtualised workloads too and do it with a response time which will put it’s scale up competitors to significant shame, but the design focus here was in the application of distributed cache coherency in private cloud architectures.
