NetApp wakes up. Winter ended a while back.
As we move towards EMC World NetApp's corporate bloggers have re-discovered the publish button like it was some lost relic in an Indiana Jones movie.
There's obviously a marketing campaign coming.
I did like Val's rundown of what he sees as GX competitors, even if it was written to please share holders instead of customers. Which I found somewhat weird though history should show NetApp shouldn't guess which planet the Necromonger army will invade next since they've usually been wrong.
They bought Decru and thought EMC might go after NeoScale. That didn't happen. They bought Spinnaker and have spent the past five years staring at it like it'll magically morph into New Coke..I mean New OnTap.
That's obviously not happening and it's going to require a lot more staring.
But seriously it's good to see some signs of life. Even if they'll go back into hibernation after wards until their next big marketing bowel movement.
Am I the only one who finds it amusing for you, of all people, to get all snarky about "corporate bloggers"? EMC has become almost Sun-like in its (ab)use of blogging to promote its corporate message. You can disavow any such plan or intent, of course, and probably will, but then why would you reject any similar disavowal by NetApp employees? If we were to apply a single standard to both you and them, then either they're not corporate shills or you are. Which *one* standard do you prefer?

What you find amusing Jeff is no concern of mine but indeed I'm *worse* than a corporate shill since I do this on my own time and at my own expense.
I'm a true believer. Scary!
But thanks for your snarky comment it's good to know you're still out there on the industry fringe somewhere.

Jeff - I appreciate your perspective. From where I sit corporate blogging is nothing more than verbal sparring, not to be taken too personally. You do need a thick skin to be in this game, but I happen to like Zilla's style and passion (if not his substance :-)
Mark - You caught me! I happened to notice EMC World is happening next week, the well kept secret that it is. Your posts are provocative as always. For the heck of it, I'll respond more fully later today on my page (linked below).

Val you make me smile. Which is why when the revolution comes I'll have you shot last. ;)

As promised, I took your movie metaphor and ran with it for today's post. Also, Tony Stark lent me his suit, so I'm not worried about the revolution.
Besides - it's usually the establishment who gets shot during a revolution, not the heir apparent. So I'd get to my tailor for a kevlar fitting if I were you :)
