I XAM

David Evanston throws the usual chestnut about Centera lock in into the fire.

What, me worry? Pffftttt...

The word is given and the word is XAM.

Three sessions at EMC World worth checking out.

Introduction to XAM (eXtensible Access Method): A New Industry Standard Access Method for Fixed Content

Abstract:
XAM (eXtensible Access Method) is the new industry standard for fixed-content storage. This session introduces XAM concepts, XAM technology, and the XAM API. Code examples are used to illustrate basic XAM functionality, such as writing content to a XAM compliant device. This session is intended for software developers.

XAM – The Access Method for the Internet Age

Abstract:
This birds-of-a-feather session brings together developers and EMC XAM experts to discuss and debate the merits of XAM. Learn how diverse organizations are planning for implementing XAM in their applications.

XAM (eXtensible Access Method) – Hands-on Workshop (2 hours)

Abstract:
XAM (eXtensible Access Method) is the new industry standard for content-addressed storage (CAS). This session explores the use of the XAM API to access EMC Centera. XAM concepts and technology are introduced in a lab setting. Attendees will use XAM-based tools to perform a number of instructor-led exercises. This session is intended for software developers.

And remember this is XAM. Not DiskXtender or anything like that. XAM. Which means what you learn is useable with XAM compliant devices from other vendors.

What do you mean your CAS device isn't XAM compliant? Is your vendor locking you in?
