EMC acquires WysDM Software

Pacman

Not only am I working like crazy these days but Pac-Man is too. So much so that EMC picked up WysDM (The provider from which it OEMs code for EMC Backup Advisor and NetWorker Dashboard) and never told anyone.

You'll recall the same thing happened with Indigo Stone when it was acquired by EMC.

EBA is an interesting tool for reporting junkies with it's ability to collect data, report on and run predicative analytics against all aspects of your backup environment.

I could have a long explanation of what EMC Backup Advisor does but a picture might be a better way to go.

Collect, analyse, predict and/or report on every aspect of your backup infrastructure.

There are hundreds of canned reports and a ruleset editor for those who want to build their own custom reports. It's a pretty nifty product and when the IT department finds out it can provide them with chargeback numbers, thereby allowing them to turn backup into a profit centre, their eyes always light up.

All in all EBA has been such a big seller for EMC, it monitoring massive backup environments globally, I don't expect it's heterogeneous backup product/hardware support to change. NetWorker Dashboard is where it's at if you're an end to end EMC NetWorker shop of a particular size but other than that it's all about EBA.
